Menu.pet was inspired by my dog Bo. I got him when he was six years old and was told which food he eats and where to buy it, then they added that he gets frequent ear infections during the summer humidity.
Of course, I didn’t know any better and I fed him that food. Over the next couple years, his ear infections got worse, he developed a belly rash, and his feet became so itchy that he licked them constantly (to the point that most of his foot fur was gone).
I brought him to his doctor so many times. I got a lot of information from her and we did everything we could for him. Of course, she suggested changing his diet so I did...
To another food from the same company, then another from them. Finally, at his doctor’s suggestion, I switched to another manufacturer, tried yet another food, and another.
I finally put all the ingredients into a spreadsheet and compared them side by side. Other than the vitamins and minerals, I saw a pattern. All the foods had peas, just regular green peas.
Within a week of switching his food yet again (taking peas out of his diet) he started to improve. Once recovered, I did a test. I gave him his old food again. Within 4-6 weeks his issues started to slowly return so we went back to the new food. Since completely removing peas from his diet, he’s had no ear infections and only occasional mild rashes.
For now, I’m fairly happy with his food but he’s lost some weight and doesn’t always like his food (I supplement it with other things he likes so he’ll eat). I need to find a food that provides the nutrition he needs without any negative side effects.
I’m finally using this website, inspired by Bo, to help him. He’s had a few other medical issues but he just turned 11 last September and is doing well.
I hope we can help your pet,
Dave Walsh
